Christ Covenant Church E-Announcements for Thursday, 12/07/17

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND MINISTRY MOMENTS:

WELCOME CHRIS!
We’d like to welcome Chris Peters to our staff. She has accepted the Office Administration position and has started training.

ANGEL TREE CHRISTMAS PARTY UPDATES
The Angel Tree Christmas Party is just a week away. All children are invited to come. For CCC families we are asking that you bring a snack to share. There will be a sign-up sheet at the welcome desk this Sunday for everyone who is available to help with the party on December 10. There are several ways you can get involved: 1) bring a snack for the party, 2) help set up either Sunday the 3rd after church or Saturday the 9th at 7 p.m., 3) help host activities at the party (we have suggestions or you can come up with your own party game and bring it). For more information or to volunteer in one of these ways, contact Paul Mast Hewitt (pmasthewitt@gmail.com or 630-479-1290).

ADVENT WREATH LIGHTING
Any family or individual interested in participating in the Advent Wreath lighting and reading during the Sundays in December, please let Pastor Ken know.

CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE
Christmas Eve service will be on Sunday, December 24th at 5:00PM followed by dinner at Lom Ling’s in Lombard for anyone interested. Please RSVP to the office if you plan to attend the dinner to make reservations.

PARTNERING WITH THE VOLANDS DURING ADVENT
Hey CCC! We want to partner with you to bless 2 refugee families living in Hamburg with Christmas gifts for their children! Refugees in Germany have their basic needs met by the government, but have very little personal spending money because they are unable to work until they are proficient in the language. They buy their kids used clothing and toys. It would mean the world to them to be able to give their kids some new things. They would also think it is really neat to have a new outfit or toy from America!

One family has 4 young children (ages 9, 6, 5 and 2), and the other has a 1 year old baby. Both are believing families and celebrate Christmas. Similar to the Operation Christmas Child idea, we are asking you to fill a box with clothes and toys for these 5 children in lieu of a care package for our family. Once we receive the box we will hand deliver the gifts to the parents so they can present them to their kids on Christmas morning! We cannot think of a better way to show God’s love to 2 families who are dear to us, and who have experienced unspeakable trauma and loss.

If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Thomas or Irada who have information about the kids’ genders and clothing sizes. Gifts should be shipped by December 10 to ensure delivery for Christmas.

MISSIONARY CARE PACKAGES
The Missions team is preparing to send care packages for our supported missionaries. Please join us in this effort over the next few weeks. Ways to help include signing Christmas cards, purchasing items, contributing funds toward items and shipping, and writing notes of encouragement. Here is the schedule for the next several weeks.

Dec 10 – Items are due back at the church; Packing day
Dec 11-Dec 15 – target window to ship the packages

Please look for the sign up sheets at a table next to the missions bulletin board or contact Thomas Nguyen (tnguy08@yahoo.com). You can also access and sign up for items on the care package wish list using the following link. Missionary Christmas Care Package Sign up

The Johnson Family cordially invites all of you to enjoy our annual Smorgasbord Dinner following worship on Sunday, December 17th.

HELP FILL THE FOOD PANTRY
The food pantry is in need of much replenishing. It is in need of the following items: paper towels, kleenex, granola bars, cereal, jelly, soups, corn and frozen pizzas. Monetary donations are also welcomed. Donations can be placed in the offering bags. Be sure to include in the memo section of the check, ‘food pantry.’
