Welcome Rev. Ross

Field Notes by Pastor Ken

Week of 1/20/19

It is a great privilege to introduce you to our new part-time youth director, Rev. Barbara Ross. Rev. Ross is an ordained minister in the AME Church (African Methodist Episcopal Church) and comes to us with years of experience in youth ministry.  She has a Master of Divinity Degree, a Master of Arts Degree in Spiritual Formation and Evangelism, a Certificate in Church Leadership, and a Certificate in Spiritual Formation.  Rev. Ross has pastored four congregations.  In each of the churches she has served, Rev. Ross has led and directed the youth ministry.  She has taught youth, led youth on spiritual retreats, and has led youth on mission trips.  The latest youth group missions trip she led went to Texas after Hurricane Harvey, to help rebuild three homes.  Rev. Ross has a real heart for young people and has a beautiful spirit (or should I say, “Spirit”?) about her.  We want to give you an opportunity to meet and welcome Rev. Ross and ask her any questions you might have.  We are providing such an opportunity this Sunday, January 27th, after worship.  Rev. Ross will be consecrated during the worship service on Communion Sunday, February 3rd.

Here is Rev. Ross in her own words:

“For as far back as I can remember I have always had a love for God, His People, and His church.  After my fully immersed baptism, in Deer Creek, located in Estill, Mississippi; on a very hot day in July at the age of twelve; I lead a group of the neighborhood children to church one Sunday and ultimately to Jesus Christ.”  Many of them are still serving the Lord today.   Looking back on that point early in my spiritual journey, I believe that it was then, when the Holy Spirit anointed and equipped me for this position of Youth Director.”

I was born and raised in Mississippi.  I am the mother of three adult sons (Wayne, Orlando, and Wendell).  My son, Wendell (deceased at the age of 16) is the youngest.  I have two grandsons:  Nathan, 12, and Zaveon, 5, and one granddaughter: Zalayah, 2.

Welcome, Rev. Ross!
