Beginning Sunday (2/12) you may sign up to donate one or more small items to be included in a missionary care package. Each missionary that Parkwood supports has taken the time to make a list of items they would like to be included in their individual packages. Once all items have been purchased, John Chiu has graciously offered to mail the packages to the intended missionaries. God’s Garden Bible Reading program has begun!  Small, colorful pamphlets were sent home last Sunday.  Please encourage your child to read their Bible daily.  Younger ones can be read to.  We want to develop spending time in God’s word daily as part of a life long habit.  Joshua 1:8 “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.  Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

The family asks that you would pray for a quick recovery, a successful surgery for Rebecca’s mother and strength for Rebecca and her brother as they provide support to their parents. Rebecca wishes to express her thankfulness to God as she watches him provide for her and her family’s needs during this difficult time.

The next local packing event will be held on Saturday, February 4th from 11:30am – 1:30pm in Schaumburg , IL . The church office (630-758-0252) is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00am-2:00pm and on Sundays from 8:30am-10:30am. This Sunday, Pastor Peter will continue in his sermon series celebrating the Advent season of 2011 entitled “UBUNTU:  with all OUR hearts”.  The Bible text is from Matthew 12:15-21.

WELCOMING AND ENFOLDING TEAM: LUNCH SPOT

Lunch spot is an opportunity for extended fellowship around a meal.  It is an opportunity for new or recent guests to meet some of the faces of Parkwood.  This week, lunch spot will be held at Subway in the plaza near Route 83 and St. Charles Rd.  Chuck Yeager  is hosting.

WELCOMING AND ENFOLDING TEAM: GREETING MINISTRY

The Welcome & Enfolding Ministry would like to extend an invitation to folks who are interested in serving at Parkwood to come find out more about our Sunday morning Greeting Ministry.  Please join us for lunch on Sunday, January 8, from 12:30 – 1:30pm and learn more about the ministry and how God is using us here at Parkwood.  (The location will be one of the classrooms off the Fellowship Hall.)  To RSVP or to ask any questions, please contact Rebecca Nakamura.

ABUNDANT HARVEST MINISTRIES

The next Abundant Harvest Ministries Dinner will be Sunday, January 29th and the menu will feature chicken and steak salads. If you are interested in helping with the dinner, please let Phillip Voland know. Also, to volunteer with the food pantry, contact the church office (office@parkwoodcommunity.org).

LEADERSHIP TEAM: MEETING

There will be a leadership team meeting on Saturday, January 7^th from 9:00am – 12:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. The agenda for discussion will be to present a revised mission statement, share goals for 2012, and give an update on our finances. If you are a council member, ministry team leader or small group leader, please mark your calendar. Pastor Peter will send out an Evite. Light continental breakfast will be provided.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY: CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE

On Saturday, December 24th, Parkwood Children’s Ministry will present the annual Christmas Eve Service. The theme of this year’s program will be “Witnesses of Christmas.” The service will be at 4:30pm with a reception to follow. For those participating in the program, practices will be held on Sunday, 12/18 after worship and at 3:00pm on December 24^th.  If you haven’t done so, please let Gloria or Emmy (youth@parkwoodcommunity.org) know if you will be here for the Christmas Eve service so they can plan the program.  Thank you.

This Sunday, Pastor Peter will continue in his sermon series “Debtors to Christ: Living Generously.”  The sermon texts this week are Matthew 18:21-35 and 26:6-13.

FINANCE TEAM: 2012 OFFERING PLEDGES

As of Thursday, we have received 8 pledges.  If you haven’t turned in your pledge cards, please do so by this Sunday.  To help us plan for the 2012 budget, we are asking Parkwood households to fill out offering pledge cards by November 20th.  They can be placed in the offering basket or given/e-mailed to Christina Chan or Greg Macek. Pick up a pledge card at the welcome table or refer to the recent e-announcement attachment.  If you have any questions, please contact Bob Hong, Christina Chan or Pastor Kathy.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE: COUNCIL NOMINATIONS

Council nominations are being accepted through November 27^th.  All completed nomination forms should be turned into Michael Mo (Chair), Mayling Wong-Squires (Secretary), Greg Macek , Bob Hong or Pastor Peter. Pick up a nomination form at the welcome table or refer to the e-announcement for the attachment.

WE TEAM: THANKSGIVING POTLUCK LUNCHEON

Please join us for our annual Thanksgiving Potluck Luncheon on Sunday, November 20, immediately following service. If you are able, please bring a side dish, salad, vegetarian main dish, dessert or beverage to share. Or, to donate funds toward the meal, please contact Rebecca Nakamura.  Whether or not you can bring a dish, please plan on joining us for this special gathering to express our thanks to the Lord and to enjoy his blessings of food and fellowship.

M&J TEAM: FOOD PANTRY MONTH

During the month of November, the M&J Team would like to encourage all Parkwooders who are able to bring contributions each Sunday to support our food pantry ministry. Canned goods, pasta and grains, and baby supplies (diapers, wipes, formula) are especially welcome. On the last Sunday of the month during Family Worship, children will bring their donations to the front as part of the service. Thank you in advance!
