MERCY AND JUSTICE TEAM: STILL LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS AND DONATIONS FOR 2012 HFFF!

The M&J team needs to hear from you ASAP if you’d like to volunteer for the 2012 Healthy Family Fun Fair! We are looking for people to: 1) help distribute flyers in the neighborhood THIS Sunday after worship; 2) help on the day of the event–May 12th from 10:00am-1:00pm, or 3) help with setup on Friday evening, May 11th. If you are interested in being involved in any of these ways, please let us know. We are also still seeking donations for the event and we are looking for a minimum of $200 more from the congregation to help support the event. On May 5, 1995, Parkwood opened its doors to the public for the first time. Although the faces and mission statement may have changed and evolved through the years, God’s faithfulness and calling to us as a church remain the same. With grateful hearts, let us celebrate what God has done and continues to do through Parkwood. To God be the glory!

FINANCE TEAM: A NEW WAY TO GIVE
Parkwood is adopting a new giving option that may be more convenient for many of our congregants – The Evangelical Covenant Church’s Online Giving Program. A “Give” link has been added to the main menu of Parkwood’s website (http://parkwoodcommunity.org). Logistically, it works in a manner similar to online shopping. You choose the fund you wish to contribute to (currently, General Fund or Benevolence Fund). Then select a donation frequency: one-time, weekly, monthly, or annually. Indicate the amount of the contribution and any special notes you may have for the donation (e.g. offering envelope number). Add that to your giving cart and then check out. You’ll be prompted to create an account your first time through the process. For subsequent gifts, you’ll be able to simply login with your e-mail address and password. You’ll receive an e-mail confirming your gift, or you can view/edit the gift through your online account. Parkwood will also capture your online donations so that you’ll get a contribution letter in January with a summary of all of your tax-deductible giving to the church via any venue. CHILDREN’S MINISTRY: VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – “SKY”
This year, the theme of our July 23-27 VBS week is “Sky:” We will teach children that everything is possible with God! We are currently looking for volunteers to make VBS happen. Please prayerfully consider helping out. The volunteer signup sheet can be found near the Welcome Table. INTER-CHURCH SOFTBALL LEAGUE!
Parkwood will be participating in an inter-church softball league this summer. The tentative schedule is May 27th through August 12th for the regular season with a playoff game on August 18th. Games will be Sunday after church, and there will be between 6 and 12 games, depending on how this year’s schedule is set up. A sign-up sheet is available in the lobby. How can we live life with greater awareness of God’s wisdom in our lives when are faced with trials, temptation, riches, poverty, sin, brokenness, and spiritual emptiness?  Pastor Peter will be starting a 4-part sermon series based on the epistle of James with references to the book of Proverbs and Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (Matt 5-7).  Through this teaching, we will gain a clearer perspective, better attitude and more purposeful living through God’s wisdom.

Please join us for our annual Easter Potluck Luncheon on Sunday, April 8th following the children’s Easter Egg hunt. If you are able, please bring a side dish, salad, vegetarian main dish, dessert or beverage to share. Whether or not you can bring a dish, please plan on joining us for this special gathering to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and to enjoy the fellowship of our Parkwood family. CHILDREN’S MINISTRY: EASTER EGG HUNT

Following service and before the luncheon, there will be an egg hunt for the children.  Parents, please meet your children in the fellowship hall to take them out.  We want to make sure your child is with you for the hunt.  Your child may bring his/her own Easter basket for the eggs.  We will also have bags available.  Please remind your children to share their eggs with those with less, especially if they have an abundance   Thank you to all who contributed to stuffing the eggs.  There will be several recycle boxes again.  You may encourage your child to dump out the candy and goodies into their baskets and leave the egg shells closed up in the recycle boxes to be reused next year.

The church office (630-758-0252) is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00am–3:00pm and on Sundays from 8:30am-10:30am. To reserve a church classroom for a meeting, post an event for the church calendar, or to add an announcement to the weekly distribution, emailoffice@parkwoodcommunity.org. Requests for announcement additions should be emailed by Thursday evening, and may be edited for space.
